What’s New at HiFi? - June 9, 2018
Over the past couple years, we’ve been hard at work managing several development projects as well as maintaining and enhancing our existing product line. Here is a brief overview:
Active Sky for x-plane
The main priority for us has been Active Sky for X-Plane, our first effort to provide an Active Sky experience on the X-Plane platform. ASXP’s initial design included several technologies and new concepts that we worked on for over a year before realizing that we needed to go back to the drawing board and re-work the design for an experience that provided high performance as well as great visuals while providing the kind of realism that our customers expect.
This redesign set us back quite a bit from our original estimate of completion. Currently we are looking at Q3 2018 Beta and Q4 2018 Release. Of course, these are only estimates and subject to change.
We hope to begin providing information on features, some screenshots and videos as well as other media on ASXP within the next 30-60 days.
Active Sky for P3D
Lockheed Martin has been tirelessly updating and upgrading the P3D platform and this has kept us very busy providing compatibility updates as well as tweaks and redesigns of certain features as core areas of weather depiction and visualization have changed. We’ll continue this upkeep and enhancement of the ASP4 product.
We’re also working on our next generation AS for P3D product, which will be providing several new features and technologies, including some borrowed from our efforts on the ASXP product.
Our current estimate for beta is Q1 2019, and we plan to provide more details and media concurrently with the beta start.
Active Sky Cloud Art
ASCA V2 is currently in development an includes many more cloud textures, sky colors, cloud models and a couple brand new categories. Also included are enhanced Thunderstorm efXXXts and visualization technologies. A few surprise features are also in store.
Our guide for development of new content is based on the feedback of our customers over the past year. Some of the more common requests include more “soft” looks, more variation, more detail in cloud models, smaller cloud puff sizes in general, brighter and more natural sky colors, and increased rain/storm visuals. We are addressing these requests as a priority.
ASCA V2 is expected to enter Beta in Q1 or Q2 2019.
Secret Upcoming Projects
We’ve decided to keep our new projects secret until very near release, for a variety of reasons. We’re quite excited about two main new projects that we feel will provide greatly enhanced realism for all popular sim platforms.
So while we can’t provide any details yet, please stay tuned for teasers and hints in the coming months.
